2:30 PM - 5:00 PM Curtis Opera Theatre: La scala di seta and Gianni Schicchi
Curtis Symphony Orchestra
Rossini: La scala di seta (The Silken Staircase)
Puccini: Gianni Schicchi
This delightful double bill pairs confusion and comedy, motivated by matchmaking. A silken ladder leads to love in Rossini's fast-paced farce, while Puccini's wily hero devises an audacious scheme to unite a young couple.

Fully staged production with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra, sung in Italian with English supertitles.

The Curtis Opera Theatre season is sponsored by the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation.

Curtis students, faculty, and alumni come together to celebrate the 90th birthday and career of faculty emeritus Bernard Garfield. Mr. Garfield's decades-long career as principal bassoon of the Philadelphia Orchestra from 1957 to 2000, along with his 32-year tenure teaching at Curtis, made him among the most influential woodwind players in America. He also composed works for winds, some of which will be featured on this tribute program of live performances, speeches, and video messages from several generations of Curtis musicians.

General admission, no tickets required.
